The Night Before My Wedding: Your Husband Is Alive

The night before my second wedding, a stranger texted me a photo of my dead husband — taken three weeks ago.

Four years after I buried Elias, I was getting married again at two o'clock on a Saturday. At 11:40 the night before, a message came from a number I didn't know: If you marry him tomorrow, I'll tell you where your husband is buried. Twenty minutes later a photograph arrived — Elias, thinner, grey at the temples, taken three weeks ago outside a hardware store in a town I'd never heard of. I didn't get married on Saturday. And by Sunday night I understood that the man I almost married had known exactly where my husband was for four years.
